Exodus 15:2 "The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him."

The Free Gospel Church of the Apostles’ Doctrine was founded in 1962 in the Nation’s Capital by Apostle Ralph E. Green. Fondly known as Free Gospel Deliverance Temple the church is renowned for preaching the gospel of Jesus to every soul, to heal the sick, cast out devils and to prepare the church for the return of the Lord, baptizing them in the name of Jesus Christ with the evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost.

Apostolic in nature, the Church traces its historical roots back to the Apostles and Prophets in the first Century, A.D. From the beginning, its association with Charles Parham and the early beginnings of the Holiness-Pentecostal movement in America 1900, and from this point traces its background to William J. Seymour for the furtherance of the gospel in America to include all holiness-Pentecostal and Apostolic movements.

Following this association, the church’s next predecessor, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World was founded in 1906. Many schisms came from P.A.W; one being, the Refuge Churches of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ led by Bishop Robert C. Lawson. Other ministries were produced, one being the Way of the Cross Church, located at 9th & D Streets, Northeast, Washington, D. C. that was led by the late Bishop Henry C. Brooks in 1928 and the church continues to strive under the pastoral leadership of his son, Bishop Alfonzo Brooks.

The Way of the Cross has produced many great men of God, one being Apostle Ralph E. Green. In 1962, Apostle Green formed the Free Gospel Church of the Apostles’ Doctrine while located at 51st and E Streets, Northeast, Washington, D.C. The last 62 years of ministry has been one of constant revival and continuation in the faith. Over 50,000 souls have been baptized in Jesus’ Name, thousands filled with the Holy Ghost, and there are many great testimonies of salvation, healings and miracles of deliverance.

The Church has an active program of Community Service and Outreach. The Community Outreach and Development, Inc. were re-established in 2009 as a non-profit outreach initiative. Several initiatives were developed to provide services to the Capital Heights Community and surrounding areas extending to Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, D.C. In partnership with federal, state, local and private organizations to provide efficient and effective human services. COD has captured the attention of elected officials, mainly, Prince Georges ’County Executive, Rushern Baker, Senator Donna Edwards, Council members and many others.

Amongst other Community Outreach Programs is an extensive Prison and Outreach Ministry involved in over 12 institutions in the Washington Metropolitan area and beyond. The ministry has 52 years in radio ministry, nationally and internationally reached Argentina, Philippines and Aquila. The African Broadcast ministered to the west of Liberia and Nigeria, South to Zimbabwe and South Africa, East to Malawi and Kenya, centrally to Cameroon and Central Africa. The ministry of Foreign Missions currently supports ministries in the Philippine’s, India, Russia, Africa and Haiti as well as its most recent mission trip to Ethiopia.

Apostle Green established and assisted numerous ministries over its church history. Countless others have been influenced by the unique, yet rich experience received at Free Gospel. That unique Free Gospel ministry-style blueprint has been successfully replicated by many others. The active churches that remain, are located in; Culpeper, Virginia; Bryan’s Road, Maryland; Lexington Park, Maryland; and King George, Virginia.

While being positioned for the new thing that God is doing, here are Bishops, Elders, Deacons, Evangelists and Ministers that serve as Leaders in the church body. A moment of joy and celebration occurred on Sunday, August 19, 2011 when the first time ever in Free Gospel’s history, four women servants were ordained as Ministers of the Gospel.

Although predominantly African American, it’s preaching and community involvement attracts interracial and culturally-diverse individuals to include people of every age and from all walks of life.

In 1986, Apostle Green established OBICA (Open Bible Institute for Christian Apologetics) through Logos Bible College which awards all levels of degrees, ranging from Associates to Doctorates in Theology and Biblical Studies, just to mention a few. OBICA has developed college courses in various formats and more than 30% of the membership has enrolled in at least one or more of the classes, seminars or workshops sponsored by OBICA. As the college expands, graduation classes are larger and the completion of coursework is being expedited to meet the demands of all students.

Having served the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship for over 30 years, Apostle Green presently serves as the Honorary President of the National Apostolic Fellowship and as Vice-President of the AWCF – Apostolic World Christian Fellowship located in Kentucky.

Apostle Green entered into eternal rest on November 11, 2019. The Free Gospel Deliverance Temple church is a thriving ministry under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Shirley M. Green, Sr. Pastor and Dr. Antoinette M. Green, Executive Pastor.
